Basic tips for kayaking

Getting in the kayak from a sandy beach is a stable way to get in,
When you have carried the kayak into the water, position the front part of the kayak so that you feel that the stern part is floating. Place the paddle so that you will reach it when you get in. Sit on the kayak behind the cockpit with one leg on either side of the kayak, keeping your eyes on the bow. Now try to keep the center of gravity and brush your legs into the cockpit and slide down with your bottom in the cockpit. If you choose to have a chapel, fasten it around the hem. Now launch yourself by putting one hand in the sand and supporting the paddle with the other. If the kayak has a rudder, you only lower it when you have come out a bit and feel that there is free water under the kayak.
Now enjoy the ride!

Technique tips and Safety

Put the paddle in the water, turn your body and use the twisting force to move the paddle through the water. The paddle should be lifted out of the water when the hand closest to the surface of the water is at hip level. The hand that is placed higher up should always be the one pushing and the hand below should be the one pulling. It is important to bear in mind that the Öresund is a current of water.
Now that you've gotten in and started paddling, it's important to find out how the currents and the wind are pulling you. Paddling with the current can be very fast, but paddling back can be difficult. When you paddle, you get about 30 times as far in one minute as when you swim. Should you capsize, most people have to get to shallow water to get back into the kayak, so you must always be prepared to be able to swim to shore with the kayak.
